Cooling fan not coming on!

Help! In my 1985 the cooling fan is not coming on, but when I turn off the car and turn it on again the fan kicks in? What is going on?

Do you have the FSM? If so the first thing to check is the relay itself in front of the master cyclinder on the rear of DS fender. They do go bad and can stick leaving the fan to run all the time.

Same problem with mine...found a wire lead that had the insulation rubbed off....this was at the connector to the fan, not at the relay.....

similar problem. mine will not shut off. But not all the time. switched relays,
checked wiring, seems like a short.

Figured my problem out. The previous owner installed a different relay and wired the cooling fan directly to the battery wire. Rewired correctly and what do you know, It turns off with car. Thanks for the help guys that scan of the FSM came in hand.
