Default Checking transmission fluid

Hi all,

I'm away from home and do not have my manual with me. Anyhow, my transmission leaks fluid and I just wanted to check the level. I know that the car has to be on level ground, but do I need to warm up the car / transmission or can it be checked cold?

Pete.

Engine warm and after a drive around the neighborhood to warm the trans. I usuall aim for 1/3 of the way in the safe zone. When it gets very hot from climbing a big hill or when beating on it, it will have room for the fluid to grow.

why wouldn't I?

I check mine after a drive and stop at a gas station and let it sit for just a minute and check it...while it's still running.
