Default TPI Removal Question

Hey gang...

I've been putting off replacing the LTR gaskets on the beast for over a year. Between work and access to the car, I've pretty much had it sitting on the lift for almost a year.

Every time I've done a TPI removal up to now, it has been to completely remove the motor, so I yanked the distributor as an early part of the procedure.

This time, I'm wondering do I HAVE to remove the distributor?

I'm asking this, because I can't seem to get to the drivers inside rear bolt for the runner that is installed from the passenger side.

I have a feeling I need to, but thought I'd throw it out there before I dive into it tomorrow morning.

Also, do I NEED to remove the injectors to get the runners out? Or can I just loosen them and get the clearance needed?

Been 5 years since I had to wrench on anything on this motor, short of plugs & wires. I'm glad I have my factory manuals....forgotten too much (I've slept since then...)

They should have made the engineers actually WORK on one of these motors before they went into production...things would have been a lot different if they would have.

No need to touch the dizzy or fuel rail. Not sure what bolt your having a problem with because of a brain fart, but extensions and a swivles should be able to reach all. I'll try and thing a bit more

Oh yeah, that bolt I used an extension and a swivle joint
Don't remember if the EGR tube was already out of the way.

Thanks! I got the plenum wrestled out and could finally see where it was and got the swivel in there...

Man! What a PITA!!! I'll get the rest finished in the morning and see if I can light it off...the battery was nearly dead and is on a slow charge overnight.

I did go ahead and loosen the injector rails though...I didn't want to run the risk of valve cover leaks and that is the only way to get the runners out (I have different bolts on my intake than stock).

Thanks for the help....

I took the TPI off many times and decided the fastest way was to pull the distributor out, lift the rails, even if it can be done with other swivels and sockets.

Its so easy to reinstall it all and also re-time the engine I decided each time to just do so,making accessing bolts for removal and install a breeze.
As you said, its a PITA to access some of them hidden bolts with the fuel rails or dist. in the way..can be done but a pita to get them off.

Just wanted to share that.Once you get this stuff down like its nothing, its a breeze to remove stuff and get everything off much faster. My first time taking a TPI off,I spent maybe 2-3 hours taking it off, labeling everything, and all that stuff. Now its less than 30 minutes if the tools are ready to go.
