I have a 94 coupe and was wondering if it took a computer chip to help with horsepower addition or if it was done by a performance tuner? I bought this car a little while back and the guy said that it have a performance chip added to it. Where would I look to check on this?

The 94 does not have a user replaceable chip like the earlier models. If you want to change the programming for performance and operation, you need to use a programmer of some sort and interface with the ALDL connector. The information is transmitted via the serial data line interface with a computer or Tech 1.
If you have mods, then its beneficial. If you are stock, basically all it'll do is improve shift points in an A4 and change fan settings to make the car run cooler.

Was going to say the same thing. Shift points and converter lock-up tables if its auto. You can make the car alot more enjoyable to drive if you change some numbers there.
Also if he says it has a performance chip he may have been talking about a piggy-back unit of some kind. Big waste of money in my opinion. To know if there is one fitted have a look at the computer, there is 4 big plugs connected to the back of it, and if there is a piggy-back unit in there it will be between the computer and one of those plugs.
