driving around today and heard an odd noise.. then all of the sudden I lost power steering!!
pulled into an empty lot and popped the hood.. the belt was just hanging there... when I picked the belt up, the air pump pulley just fell off.
The 3 bolts holding it on were still there, the shaft just spun itself right out of the back of the pulley .. now the car is stranded and I need a quick fix!
Any ideas?!?
I thought about a shorter belt to bypass it, but it would rub on itself as it passed over that real big one (just under the water pump)
I drove once about five miles with no belt, the car was cold and I didn't know until the temp. creaped up. Did you call the police about the car? If you let them know that it's there and your working on it, all should be good.
Well, I ordered the elimination kit from MAD, so I should be fine by Tues night. *crosses fingers!*
I just hope the car doesnt get towed or ticketed... its like 40miles away!
Just make sure to remove ALL the smog/AIR stuff once you put the kit in. There is the pump, another plastic pump thing, several hoses and you will need to cap off the little tubes on top of the exhaust manifolds. It's a pretty easy install too.

Are you talking about the black box thing on the left of the motor? (by the A/C) Can I just leave that on there until I get the car home, or will it not run right w/o the air being pumped in?

oh yeah, i think you can leave that stuff in until you get home. You may need to cap off the exhaust tubes though depending if they feed into the pump you are removing. I honestly can't recall where all that stuff goes because it's been so long.
