Code-36 . 1987 Vette 79,000 miles ..
I cant get rid of this code ... I removed the Mass Air flow Sensor and checked the electrical connection ....Every thing looked fine ... Removed the Burn Off and MAF power relay ... Opened up both of them and checked out the contacts and coils with a Simpson Meter ... They are OK too. Disconnected the Batt . to clear the code but they re-apear after the next run and you re-start the engine .. This is the only trouble I had since new .. I don't want to take it to my Chevy dealer ..
I also have a 63-SWC which is so simple to work on .
Any help would be greatly appreciated .
I do have a service manual.
Thanks
Hans
Please note that the MAF sensor CAN go bad during service.
The one on my 89 shot craps a few year ago and it ran terrible. The MAF is expensive to purchase just to see if it corrects the problem. Do you know anyone with a laptop/scan tool? Using this tool, you can see what the all the sensors are doing and what they are supposed to be doing. I highly recommend finding someone to scan your car. The dealer will do it for you ....but bring along some $$$!
Sam,
I used my Auto xray scanner for the codes . Code 36 means that the burn-off function did not take place after the engine was turned off and that is monitored by the ECM which spit out the code . 36 ............
Thanks
Hans
Duh....going from memory can cause one problems. You stated 36 and I was thinking 34 Did you review the diagnostic chart in the Helms manual? Looking at this indicates you either have circuit problems or ECM. Sorry I cannot help you as this is one I have not encountered.
Hans: This is ole Sam again and I will try hard and not screw up this posting. You are having an issue with "no burn off" on the MAF.....correct? Well here is an idea that may or may not work and it will not cost you any $$$. There are two relays just behind the battery. One is for the MAF power and the other for the MAF burn off process. Did you know that both of these relays have the same part number on them? This means you can exchange the two relays and see if this corrects your problem. While you have the relays off, examine the harness connections to assure you do not have damage to the female connectors. Let us know what happens if you decide to do this
FIXED ...
I went out today and bought two new relays .Bill came to $ 28.00 .... Car runs great again with no service engine light ......
Thanks for the help
