you wouldn't happen to have a part number would you? For the V6 rl's or are they standard?
Called crane this morning and I think they gave me a bogus number. The grind number they gave me is 11HR00006? Rather than the 2040 that is. I can't find it anywhere so I'll have to call them back to get a part number.
I did this 3 years ago. Parts are:
17120070 V6 LIFTER 16 x $12.56 = $200.93
12550002 GUIDE 8 x $2.50 = $19.96
14101116 RETAINER 1 x $8.42
I remember doing the search years back, the CAT listing is incorrect. Call them, they are actually solid rollers or something like that.
If you really want cheap, there are Comp Cams...which supposedly are the same as TRWs (cheaper)...which supposedly are the same as this engine warehouse place. I can find the name if you are interested.
Long story short, I think you could get the lifters from the warehouse through an ebay dealer for 250$
Although I haven't called C.A.T. this is a quote from their web site
CAT offers two versions of hydraulic roller lifters for high performance application. One version is for OEM original hydraulic roller cam. One is to retrofit original mechanical cam to replace with the new roller cam with adoption of new hydraulic roller lifters.
These are a new product from C.A.T. I don't think we're talking solid roller here
I think the V6 lifter conversion might tempt me more (I'm kinda gun-shy of CAT parts 'til I hear of some first hand experience)
Ben73, have you got many miles on that V6 lifter conversion? Any potential pitfalls of the conversion? Did you have to mill the tops of the lifter bored flat?
The only CAT part I have used was a set of guide plates. The pushrods wore a semi-circular slot into them within 1000 miles.
I replaced them with some from Comp and haven't had an issue.
I used a file to compare the hardness of the CAT vs Comp and the CAT were like cheese!
Guideplate are easily replaced and won't cause much damage.. I'd never use their cranks or rods, or ANYTHING again for that matter!

Let me go find the thread...it is a website typo. TRUST ME. They sell them, but for no less than bigger name brand places. Ohh and FWIW, I know this because I already went through this whole ordeal last year.
I asked Pace tech about this ... they said their listing on site is/was mistaken ... & thanked me for bringing it to their attention ... the roller lifters w/ link bars are SOLID. Too bad ... NO el cheapo retrofit HYD roller lifters w/ links. Both Pace & I agree that language at CAT catalog & web site needs work on English & clarity.
Now you can get the cheapest EPWI->TRW->CompCams (or so it is believed)
I know Tom Wong can order from EPWI and get you the retrofit lifters for the cheapest price, however, I am in no way stating that he is verifying that these are the same as CC lifters. It looks to be that way, but those are my words not his. He just has the connections to order them.
This is good info. Funny, all the surfing around looking for info I've done I found one of the best threads back here on the C3 forum
I think the V6 retrofit may be in my future. Guess I'll drop the $20 to get the Ebay info. I'm still waiting to hear from someone who's done it & has some miles on it (Ben? Ben?)
I don't drive my car much.. I've done about 4000 miles on the v6 lifters with zero issues. That includes about 50 1/4 mile passes and 2 dyno floggings. I have done a cam swap, and a manifold swap (or two) since, so I have had the opportunity to inspect them and all is well. It runs quietly also.
The guy who sells the info on ebay says he has done many miles, and I see no reason why this setup would cause issues if done correctly.
That being said, there is a thread at thirdgen.org where someone went into the water jacket while prepping the tops of the lifter bores.. SO be careful and only remove as little as is required...
Here is a small pic. I don't remember if this is mine, or Dan's (Lionsden), so credit goes to Dan if I have used his pic ;-)
