I have been trying to research this problem but I am at a loss. Of course I am not the most experienced weekend mech.
When my car runs for a while and gets nice and hot. Smoke will come from the engine compartment. The first couple of times I popped the hood and each time narrowed the source of the smoke to the left catalytic converter.
At stop lights if I have to stay there too long there will be noticeable smoke coming up through the center console and from under the car.
I wanted to see if anybody knows what this is. Is this a sign that the cat converter is clogged? Is there something else wrong with the left side of the engine?
Any comments would be great. 90 L98 with 127k owned for a year. Otherwise runs great no overheating a lot of power and reliable.

Hmmm, I wonder if anything changed from 88 to 90. Probably not, you are probably seeing the results of a tiny oil leak. My 88 would do this on really hot days when the oil got thin, it would sneak by the valve cover gasket and drip a drop or two down on the exhaust. It does not take much to make a big cloud of smoke! Check the valve cover gasket area, also the intake manifold is prone to leaks near the back of the engine.
OK Ill check the back of the engine. If it is leeking is replacing the gaskets my only option? Could I put some ATV sealant back there?
I'm sure you meant RTV sealant, and no if you've got a leak, which is what it sounds like you do, you need to repair it properly and replace the nec. gaskets.
