Well I've now figured things out: GM is screwing us here in Canada. The exchange right now is around 11%. The flywheel in Canada had a GM list price of around $850. The exact same part (part number is identical) at any US GM dealer is $418. Seems like a little more than 11% being added to make up for the exchange. The only problem with getting parts in the US and bringing them here is that our government charges you all the tax plus a ridiculous amount of duty because they think you should have bought the part in Canada regardless of how much more expensive. If you bring it in without declaring it and they find it you get flagged everytime you cross the border.
So I guess the moral of the story is that if you're Canadian you're screwed either way.
If you want more proof check out the price difference for a new C6 in both Canada and the US!
put the flywheel in the trunk, sans box, and no one will know it's anything but something that's sat in the trunk for a few days... BFD.
I hate duty and tarriffs like that... they destroy economic development... and that leads me to my next qx, wasn't NAFTA designed to stop just this kinda raping?

It's bull if you ask me.
Since I deal with this stuff on a daily basis, I have seen folks declare values of $5.(that's the minimum for UPS to take a package anywhere). SOme try the $.01 but that doesn't work since UPS requires me to tell the shipper they need to declare at least $5.
I've heard of others who will have stuff shipped to a town near the border and either pick it up or have someone bring it in.
So 11% is the number, that's better than it was, so the higher price can probably be boiled down to supply and demand.
I know that my dual mass flywheel brand new went for $685 including shipping from GA and the GM list was around $1300 with quotes from indivdual dealers for $900.

You do have one benefit in Canada, you don't have to put up with those God awful water saving toilets that are now required on all new construction in the US.

Don't get me started on that one. Friggin takes 3 flushes to get everything down.
I did my top end last winter and didn't buy anything up here. I got hosed by UPS but other than that it was waaaay cheaper. GM Parts Direct will not ship to Canada.
