Default Loose Window

My driver's side window is loose. With the window partially down, the glass can be moved front to rear in a rocking motion. The only place I can see some play is where the plastic regulator rides up and down the metal shaft.

I haven't removed the metal plate inset in the door yet, so I can't see much. Anyone have any input before I tear into it?

I just put mine back together recently when I replaced my door glass on both sides. I would assume the bolts came a little loose that hold the window in place. You will need to take off the metal aluminum plate and make sure the window is sitting down on the track and tighten those 3 bolts up that hold them in place. What else wouldn't hurt is to tighten the felt pads that sit at the top of the door. Move them in further to have them press against the glass and tighten them up. I noticed when I did that with the new windows in place.. they don't wobble as much as they did before and the door closes much quieter now.

There are plastic guide stops on it that usely wear out. if you let it go to long it will mess up the regulator .

got pics of these plastic guide stops you speak of, clf93lt1?

I notice that if the windows are partially down and I close the door, they seem to shake pretty loosely. I'll have to look into this as well.

There are felt covered pads that hold the glass from rattling, id say you just need to adjust them. Pull your door panel off and youll see them, they are at the top of the door, 2 each side. If you cant tell which peices i mean, get a pic from the top without the door panel on, PM it to me and ill circle them for ya and post it up.

Forgot to mention, mine is an '86. The guides in the thread above are for 93-96. If my car uses the same ones, I can't see them.

The movement in the window is from the rear of the door to the front. My glass isn't loose in the mounts. The only play I can see is where the plastic regulator sash slides up and down on the round metal shaft. It's sloppy like a weekend at the Bunny Ranch. I'm guessing the whole regulator needs to be replaced.

Thanks mate!

Jet-Jock was nice enough to e-mail me some photos of his description in that previous thread. He was talking about the late model, scissor type regulator. I have the early, plastic style, so those guides were nowhere to be found. I tightened a few things, but it seems I just have a worn regulator.

Appreciate the input just the same.

Funny that, i thought all the regs were scizzor type from 86 up, yet my 87 had the plastic track ribbon type regs.... A few people have said it to me now that their 86-87 had those same ones as well.
