I used 3M weatherstripping adhesive because mine would not stay down and when I let the back glass up the ws would come with it. It went pretty smooth except for removing the excess adhesive. I used a hairdryer and some stuff called "Prep all" and a rag. You have to get it hot so it will release easier other wise you end up with sorer (sp?) fingers and more time spent. The more careful you are the better. You can try without adhesive to start with.
Saw a hot rod segment on corvette weatherstrip on 88, and they only suggested putting some in the corners by the pillars to hold it in the V-grove, when i did mine, thats the only place i added the "black glue" -
some other tricks (which definately helped were) - leave indoors to room temp, - when installing use hair dryer to heat as you move along, - glue the corners and tape in place, - install and keep hatch closed for 24hrs to form.
Have not had any leak issues or fit .... so gotta figure it worked.
