I just purschased a 1984 Corvette from my cousin in Florida. He put in a 83 Camaro computer to give the car more response. (He read that someplace) The car was from florida were there is no emmission standards and is now in New york were we have to pass a Emission test. The car is running rich as you can smell the fuel when you get on it. Do you think this will get by the machine? Im told the standards for 1984 are laxed compared to newer vehicles.

There are 49 state standards and there are California standards. Whether you have to be tested or not, state the the non-California car came from should make no difference. The 1982-'84 F bodies may or may not use the same computer as the Corvette, but even if not, the performance is in the chip, not the computer. It is highly unlikely that the calibrations in the chip for the F body cars, with the 305 engine, would be an improvement for the 350 used in the Corvette. The pick up truck computer, mentioned, is a better computer, because it is a few years newer and it is faster. The REAL advantage to the truck computer, is that it has been hacked and many programs have been written for altering the performance of the Crossfire. The 1984 computer has no programming software available, that I am aware of.
yes,the car is very fast even though I never owned a previous Corvette, my son had a 85 Z 28 5 speed with a 305 and the two cars are no comparrison. But it smells when you get on it enough to make your eye hurt if your behind the car.I though a car had to be 25 years old to be exempt from emmission testing?
