Default Airbox help

VORTEX RAMMER COLD AIR SYSTEM are they worth $280?

I heard and know of the cutting of the airbox and getting a K&N but I dont want to do that to mine.

What is the best airbox but a good price to?

No, its a piece of junk. Quality is awful and the performance is not as advertised.

SLP is the one I have, but it is not going to give the power that is advertised either.

DO think its cost worthy or no?
I got the paper stock filter in now.
What about the one with the 3 filters at the end?

That's the SLP, I have it on my car. Looks good, sounds good...performance gain? Probably not much...

BTW...Welcome! Nice color choice!

no they aren't worth it for the price you pay. About the best option is to cut your lid (free) and get a K&N filter in there.

You could also run new hose and get a cone filter down there too (i made a short ram, but plan to make it longer and get it back to the stock area soon). That was a few dollars in hoses and clamps from the hardware store and a cone filter from the auto parts store.

Don't bother with the BPP ramair crap. BPP stands for Bad Performance Products I was going to buy one when they first came out. They had dyno numbers for their Late C4 and C5 cars, but none for the Early C4 cars. They also refused to talk about it when I asked them... which leads me to believe, its a POS compared to the LT1/LS1 models.

I have the LT1 so should I just go with buying the open lid and K&N. I saw a kit that does the same thing as if you cut your airbox. I rather have the Original parts.

The K&N does not fit the stock airbox very well. They give you some grease to try and seal it. SLP is much better. Recent article in Corvette Enthusiast Mustang Dyno says 6 hp.

I have a SLP but this is not a true cold air system. It still works for me.

I was looking at the SLP CAI ($267). I understand HP gains is questionable, but can you describe any WOT sound difference between this and the KN open lid filter.

the cut lid w/K&N sounds about the same compared to stock. It just breathes better because you don't have it sucking air through a teeny group of slits anymore.

The CAI's won't get you much more of a gain because its still pulling the same air from the same area.. it just might breath a bit better, but with a cut air lid, you are about as good as you are going to get. About the only gains you will get from one of those CAI kits is it looks cooler and you might get a few mors horses out of it. Certianly not worth $267...

u r better off cutting the aluminum airbox lid, getting a K&N insert, and saving $200. you can always make it look professional by bomb-canning the lid a sweet color to match your vette as well. save a few bucks and do it your self.

I haven't noticed this? I have two K&N filters for my LT4 (so I can have one in there while I clean and re-oil the other one if necessary) and they both fit fine and didn't come with any grease.

Honestly I don't know of any airbox that is worth the money. Do a full cut lid. Then you can buy roller rockers instead.

CUT the LID! If you want you can pick a new one up on the internet or local junk yard if you want to keep your old one. The filter is no problem and you can tell right away that it is breathing better. It is a CHEAP fix and worth the fact that you are getting more air in. wro87

basiclly whatever is not holding the filter down, cut it out of the lid.

you want to leave the outside frame and thumbscrews to actually hold the filter to the airbox, but cut away everything else so the filter will be left completely exposed.

it is hard brittle stuff, I cut mine up with an anglegrinder. you can probably do it just as easy with some cutoff wheels and a drill.

As suggested use an angle grinder or a small jig saw. Cut it right were it meets the top of the filter (one big square hole). As for the rockers I went with some self alineing roller rockers and reused the guide plates. you will have to grind off the tabs under the valve covers or use some tall covers if you want. The downside withsome of the taller valve covers is that you will have to remove them if you want to get to some of the bolts on the intake. wro87
