I have had my car running fantastic lately. The other day I pull out of the drive way and get half way down my street and the check engine light comes on and a second later the car dies dead in its tracks. Fuel was fine, I had no spark. I got a code 42. I inspected all the wires and everything looks fine, all connections are good, cleared codes tried a few different things, nothing.
Today I go to dig in the engine again to find out whats going on but before I do I try starting it again. The car starts right up perfectly and is still running good.
What the hell is going on? Any ideas? I figure maybe a ground somewhere but everything looks good. Is there something that could slowly be crapping out in my car, or a faulty ...somthing?
Still havent got a chance to look at it yet, been busy all day, but it has started missing again. It was doing this earlier and I couldnt figure why it was missing. Would the fact that it is missing give any more hints to what component it could be?
Alright, I have a high performance one from a while ago that is still good so I will check the wires and put that in tommorow and see what happens. I note that the miss only occurs when the engine is at operating tempature.
Ok guys, I would just like to let you know that I figured the problem out now. Thank you for your help. There was a pink wire with a white female connection that goes into the tach/bat part of the dist. The inside of the connector (metal connection) had broken apart and was creating a really bad connection. I have replaced it and now the car runs much better. Thanks for all your help!
Yeah the wiring looks pretty brittle, I think at some point Im going to have to replace most of it. Maybe by then ill have my new truck and some time to do it. Hopfully what is there will hold for now.
