I'm working on the eninge today and while I'm at it I wanted to clean up the intake manifold. I have some paint I picked up from autozone. The color is called cast aluminum I believe. It is for eninge blocks and good up to 500 deg. I used it last weekend on my AC compressor, PMC, and alternater and they came out great. What about the intake? Is it better to polish it? I noticed it sometimes gets very hot. Will the paint trap in the heat even more? If so I'd rather polish it so it would stay cool.
Not sure about the intake but you might do what I did on certain parts. Mothers wheel polish on the AC compressor, accumulator, refrigerant lines, upper control arms..........they come out with a shiny chromelike finish............just follow the instructions and you'll be good to go.
My black setup before going poly-chrome coating was : sanded, then primed, then dupi-engine enamal and baked at 400 deg for 20 minutes between each coating (4 coats), then 4 coats of clear, each one baked. came out hi-gloss power coat looking and smooth, the dupi engine enamal is thick stuff and fulls the voids... takes some time, but very nice finish
this is now:
Powder Coat!!! I did my intake, valve covers, plenum, runners, brackets, alternator, everything except my AC compressor, and AIR pump which my painter matched perfectly.
