Once agian I need some help. I have two of my cluster lights out. The 882s, I read that 194s can be substituted however, they do not appear to be even close. Natuarlly, the local parts stores I have gone to do not carry an 882, they do have an 891 which appears to be identical to the 882 in size and appearence. Does anyone know if this is a usable light?
Problem #2 None of my dash lights appear to work (in the electronic AC controls, behind the switches for the guages or the auto trans selector) The cluster lights dim when the headlights are turned on, but that is it. In addition, the A/C controls work fine, but do not light up at all. I have taken the unit apart and cleaned the contacts but it did not make a difference. Any help you can give would be great
I can't help with the bulb ID but pull the auto A/C cluster and take a pencil eraser to the PCB contacts. Also you might bend the metal contact tabs out a little. Thes tips are in C4 Tech.
891 bulbs draw much more current and will damage your circuit board. Replace the burned out lamps with 882 only. NEVER use a pencil eraser on printed circuit board connector strips. These strips have an atoms thick plating of gold on them and an eraser will remove the gold, leaving copper. If you have connector problems now , you will have continuous problems with copper showing through. Use alcohol or electrical contact cleaner and a soft cloth ONLY.
There are 3 lamps in the a/c control head and yours might be blown out and the reason for darkness. There is no mention of the location or type of lamp in the GM electrical diagnosis manual but they are shown in the schematic.
Boy, I wish I would have read that post an hour ago, Hopefully I have not done too much damage. As far as the dash lamps go, the bulbs are good I was able to check them. None of the dash lamps appear to be working. But when I put the headlights on the lights on the cluster dim. Any idea where to trouble shoot from? I don't believe they are in series are they?

An atom-thick plating of gold!? You're being sarcastic right? If that were true then installation of the bulb would wipe off the gold. 1 atom is unfathomably small :yesnod:
I don't know the mollecular weight of gold (Au) but I do know this:
Mollecular weight
----------------- = ~# of grams 1 atom weighs!
6.02 x 10^23
I replaced all my dash lights with the 194's.They slid right in.
They are a lower candle power but i can see everything just
fine.I know for a fact other forum members are using the 194
bulb as well.Do not touch the bulbs with your fingers--oily residue
may shorten the life of the bulb. I am unsure about the other bulbs,
as of now none are out!!

I posted atoms (plural). The plating is called , "flash" and it is very thin. Gold does not oxidize or corrode, so there is no reason to use an abrasive on it. Copper does oxidize and corrode and an abrasive will remove surface corrosion. But.........you will find that the corrosion of copper occurs rapidly and you will have nothing but trouble when you have copper showing. Allow me to repeat myself here, DO NOT use an eraser or any other abrasive on gold plated electrical contacts, alcohol or electrical contact cleaner ONLY!!!
