The device in the drivers side head should be the auxiliary fan switch in your car. Since disconnecting it shut off a previously, contantly running fan, indicates that the aux fan switch has a short. Replacement of the switch is the cure. The main and auxiliary fans are totally separate systems on your car.

Can anyone tell me the right part number to use? I tried these 2-

http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...pe=290&ptset=A

http://www.partsamerica.com/ProductD...pe=290&ptset=A

Both of these don't have the same connector top to it.
Thanks!

That is what I said. See the post above yours. Unless you are addressing someone other than me.

Both of your links are to temperature sending units. You need a fan switch. The GM past number is 14043276. A.C. Delco part number, D1852B. Which looks like THIS. If you like Checker/PartsAmerica, look HERE.

I can't address the difference question between an '87 and '89.

Thanks for the info. Yes, I use Parts America because I get a discount.
