i recently put my headlights back in my car and when i put the headlights on the headlights just bob up and down but they will not stay up they just face down the motors seem to be working fine but the lights just wont rise.. does anyone know if i need to replace the whole motor or just a gear or a bushing ? any help would be appriciated

the motors rarely ever fail. the plastic gear rarely fails either.
in all likelihood the bushings are now just dust. without the benefit of the 3 plastic bushings "torque fitting" against the motor shaft, the motor will just keep spinning and then shutoff.

If his car is a 84 thru 87, just how would he replace the bushings?
Look for the thread titled "headlight motor problem" started by Slider. I wrote about my experience replacing the bushings in my '90. $5 a set (headlight). Get 2 sets. When it's done, they work smooth as silk.
