It's really hard for anyone to help you since they don't know your year. I would recommend you fill out out your profile...

the motors rarely ever fail. the plastic gear rarely fails either.

in all likelihood the bushings are now just dust. without the benefit of the 3 plastic bushings "torque fitting" against the motor shaft, the motor will just keep spinning and then shutoff.

If his car is a 84 thru 87, just how would he replace the bushings?

This is what you need. They go inside the large motor gear for the rebuild.

Get 2 kits, you won't have to worry about it again.

Also you can put plastic OEM-Style headlights. They are alot lighter then glass less burden on motors

Look for the thread titled "headlight motor problem" started by Slider. I wrote about my experience replacing the bushings in my '90. $5 a set (headlight). Get 2 sets. When it's done, they work smooth as silk.

Read the TechTips articles in the C4 section. They'll help you a lot before you start mucking around in there.

This article is good, too...
