Default Service engine soon light, no codes

So tonight was the first night I had the car running after pulling the valve covers off to inspect a knocking sound. Now the SES light it staying on even after resetting the computer but I am not getting any codes when I flash them on the dash board. Is their suppose to be a vacuum connected here, its behind the driver side valve cover. 1994 lt1.

What could cause the service engine light and not throw a code?

egr valve can do that. I sprayed throttle body cleaner on it and gently moved the pintle with a small screwdriver. Knocked the carbon off and no more light.

Ended up being the temp sensor on the front of the water pump i unplugged it and plugged it back in and the light went off. If everything could be that simple.
