Ralph, if you don't get it figured out, drop me a PM. I'm not familiar with most of the programs mentioned above, with the exception of Datamaster. I am familiar with DOS and have just about every version.

I don't see why a simple Win95/98 DOS startup disk wouldn't work. At most, maybe a bootable DOS 5 floppy or CD. You really shouldn't need a dual boot system--not for DOS. And if you go dual boot, you'll need a partition manager like Partition Magic, or you'll have to reformat and re-install your OS. I'm sure I could write you a simple boot program that runs your software. I use DOS programs flawlessly in WinXP Pro.

No problem, I figured you had it pretty dialed. The price is $325.00, for everything. This includes all cables, software, emulater, ribbon cable, extra chips, only thing left is plug and play. While easy enough, like all tuning through laptops it takes a minute to get used to doing things. The up side is also being able to swap in different bin files or chips based on weather conditions (I have several and because of the set-up it is very easy).
I share the same thing, I haven't been on the track for tuning (timing, fuel, afr, etc.) even though it is probably close, most of my time has been working closed loop.

Thank you everyone for your ideas and offers to help. For now Jim (85Vet) guided me thru setting up my Windows PC to run in native DOS using a boot disk....as someone else mentioned above. It's a bit of a PITA, because the system i'm using doesn't have an onboard diskette or CD, but it works for what i'm trying to do.

Just for kicks, the frigg'n LM-1 box took a crap on me and had to be sent back, so wide band measurments will have to wait. My diacom readings show that my ECM is throwing as much fuel at idle as it can (i have blms limited to 150) and not until i'm under load over 2000 rpms does it start to fall back into the 120s. I guess the cam has the ECM confused into thinking its lean until the rpms get up there. I might limit the blms further if the rest of the profile looks good and the wide band confirms it.

Someday, I might even get into burning chips, but for now, i'll rely on help in that area. Plus the MAF system is pretty forgiving in that regard.

ralph, EASE software will work with your native Windows systems. Ease used to require a serial port, but the latest Personal version V5.1 has full USB support built in. You can also use a USB->serial converter cable from Radio Shack. Cheap USB converter cables don't work too well, but the Radio Shack ones usually are fine. (EASE Tech Support passed that tidbit on to me.) Send me an email with info on the computer systems that you have and I'll tell you what would work best. Ease cost will be around $349.00 retail with a 10% discount off of that if ordered through me. I'll send you screen captures of the EASE scan tool in use troubleshooting an ECM problem on my 88 Vette.

There are several freeware DOS emulator programs that allow gamers to use old DOS based games that ordinarily don't work in Windows dos command windows. I downloaded, but haven't tried yet, DOSBox so that I can play my old Chuck Yeager DOS based air combat game. It doesn't work in any Windows dos window, but is supposed to work with DOSBox. I would assume DOSBox or anothrer emulator of its type would allow you to run Diacom in a windowed environment. It's worth a shot since it's free. (Be sure to make backups first) Check out the site : http://dosbox.sourceforge.net

Thanks for the tip on the DOSBox....i'll give it a try. The EASE sw looks like a nice system, but more than need. The 85 ECM output is too limited for track tuning and the narrow band is inaccurate. The LM-1 should at least give me a view of my A/F vs rpm and maybe load as seen by the MAF. And the diacom will help me trouble shoot the system when necessary.

I'm using an old IBM 560x with Windows Millenium (which until yesterday, i never heard of). It's a tiny little thing which i like and it's got a native serial port, but not having an IO device can suck.
