Code 36 Problem
Ok, here's the problem, when I start the car and it is cold (<160 degrees or so), the Check Engine light will come on and stay on. If I run it up to operating temperature, shut it down, start it back up, it will not come on. When I check the codes, it comes back with a 36, which is a maf sensor burn-off function fault according to my shop manual. The shop manual diagnostic tree runs down and the only conclusions it has are a bad ECM, or a bad MAF burn off relay. Has anyone else encountered this? I have a feeling I will change the relay to start with, but performance is not affected at all, so I hope it's not the ECM. I am going to check all the connection as well, just wanted to know if anyone has got a code 36 before and what their solution was.

If you had an '88 or later you could do a swap with the fuel pump relay.
TPIS shows the '85-'87 burn-off relay to be about $13 so, if all connections have checked out OK, just replace it.
