Default low res. pulse code 0016 error

I grabbed a Tech2 from work today and ran some diagnostics on my 95 LT1. Everything looked good except for a code "0016 low res pulse code."

The car idles rough sometimes and I was starting to lean toward injectors but this code popped up. I am going to OHM out the injectors as well to check them.

What does the code mean?

Opti spark ignition timing system low pulse. Check the wires on the opti and reset the codes.

I work at a GM dealership so I hope the optispark is not to much $.

I just ohm'd all of my injectors and they were anywhere from 13.1 to 13.8.

Do they seem out of spec as well? I thought I read somewhere that they should ohm at around 17.

Thx

They should normally ohm around 16-17. Since all 8 ohmed around the same number I wouldn't worry about the injectors unless they are leaking. I would check the connections on the optispark and disconnect the battery for ~30 seconds and reconnect it and start the engine. If the code reappears then start to worry about the opti. Code 16 or 36 is usually the kiss of death for the opti.

And if you have to replace the Opti do the plugs wires at the sametime. R&R the waterpump as well if it has high mileage.

I thought LT1 injectors were about 12 ohms.

To the best of my knowledge I beleive Tom is right on the 12 ohms. On my 94 I have looked at them and they are 12.

It is best to reset the codes, run the car and re-check for the code again. It could have been a glitch or a false code that could have been set. The reason I say this is because the low resolution pulse is critical to the engine running and should not be missing. The engine will still run with no high resolution pulse.

It has also been said the false codes have been set due to the close proximity of the high voltage wires although I have not experienced this myself.

It is also possible if the bearings in the opti are so bad, a mis-alignment might cause a code to be set even though the optical pickup is OK.
