Before going into the OD to see what you are going to get involved with, I would look here to see what is really involved. This company has sold their rebuilding services to SK Speed http://www.skspeed.com/ and they are located in New York State. They are supposed to be knowledgable on the Doug Nash OD unit.
Living in France, you may have problems getting the necessary parts shipped to you. The OD unit was only offered on the 1984 through 1988 cars so parts can be hard to find much less the specialty tools needed to repair them. I would suggest sending a email to SK Speed to see what they can do to help you.
Shipping the OD unit to them may be the best way although I would think that the cost of shipping and dealing with Customs may be another problem by itself!!

I have a good 4+3 with the overdrive. The over drive was worked on before I got it, and I never put it in.
I drove the car the trans was in, and it shifted fine, but wouldn't go into overdrive. When I pulled the trans out, there was no overdrive fluid except what was in the bottom of the pan. So I'm guessing the lack of fluid made it stop shifting.
The trans line at the radiator was all twisted and had a leak at a kink and the fluid all leaked out.
If you are interested, I'll sell it to you for $1600. add another $100 and I'll throw in the shifter and boot complete. you pay the shipping.
by the way, Mid America sells a rebuilt overdrive for $1200

It's a fun process to overhaul a 4+3. I tried and all i can say is that my vette goes backwards now. As far as special tools 3 long rods that aew the same threads as the plugs you pull out of the back and a lot of washers will be necessary to hold the pressure plate back will you remove the inside. So good luck and I hope yours turns out better then mine did. Also, dont touch the valve body if you can help ot there are conflicting pictures chevy service manual for putting it back together and I think thats where I screwed up.
Thanks everybody !!
