I have recently bought a 1992 LT1 with 40k miles; automatic shift. Everything is original on the car. I have noticed a ticking noise when when I go to start it. It sounds like it is coming from the upper right hand side of the car. It only happens when the key is all the way forward when the engine is turning over. Is the starter going bad? Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Upper right hand side of the dash or the engine? Starter is on the right hand side of the engine, but lower down. If you lift the bonnet (hood?) at night or in the do you see any arcing from plug leads?
Does the engine start easy?
Does it turn over normally?
How big a ticking noise is it?
Is it louder with the bonnet up?
If you listen from ground level looking under the car while someone else starts it, can you tell where the sound is coming from any easier?

Not to hijack a post - just had new injectors put in my '91. The car came back with what sounds like a slight valve tap. Never heard it until after the injectors were put in. I'm pretty much hearing this even after it's warmed up. Could it be nothing more than my new injectors?
It only makes the sound while strating (key is all the way forward). It starts easy & the ticking ceases after I get it started. It turns over easy & normal. I have a feelign it is the starter. Is there any way to test it? Thanks for help.
