Hey guys, has anyone here ever had the intake manifold off of an engine that ran Mobil 1? Did the lifter galley have any oil crust in it? The last engine I rebuilt (20+ years ago) had quite a bit of oil crust in the galley. Is this a thing of the past?
I was just looking into the oil filler hole on my 85 and was suprised to see that the rockers, springs, head etc. is still shiny. Admittedly, I only have 15,000 miles on it but I've never had an engine stay this clean this long.
Yep, you can eat out of most of the Mobil 1 engines. I have been told that the synthetic does not leave as much residue as the dino and that the additive package is superior to most.
Probably some of both. I have a 12 year old 350 truck engine using dino that has 130,000 with 3,000 miles between oil changes. It's almost as clean as a Mobil 1 engine, so I guess you have to really ignore good maintenance to have a really dirty engine.
I have used Mobil 1 in it ever since I bought it... unfortunately the original owner aparently didn't. The mechanic that owned it right before me used Castrol sythetic.
I am not sure what was run in mine prior to my purchase at 19K miles, but I haver run either Mobil-1 or Redline since I have had it. I pulled the intake last winter and found a few spots of crust in the lifter valley and was disappointed. But the heads were immaculate.
I cleaned it as best I could.... I used carb cleaner and got as much of that poopie out as I could without letting anything get down into the lifter valley.
My heads were off over the summer to fix a head gasket on the 92.Mechanic was commenting on how clean it was in there. It has had Mobil 1 since new.BTW 93K
at 123k miles the engine looked like it just rolled off the assembly line when i removed the intake manifold and valve covers.. it has had mobil 1 since birth!!
No knocks or smoking from the motor either.. it runs like the day it rolled off the showroom floor!! I change the oil when the change oil light comes on.. the computer tells you when to change the oil based on temp, milage, RPM and a few other factors... has been working so far
Re: Mobil 1 = Crust free engine??? (I_HATE_Mustangs)
Here's a pic of my engine that ran Mobil 1 - 98,450 miles =
I couldn't believe the difference!
Wow! I can't see what might be down in the lifter galley, but the top end is immaculate! Amazing for almost 100,000 miles. So, do you attribute this to Mobil 1 or regular oil changes or both???
I think it's the Mobil 1. I changed the oil every 5,000 miles but I don't know about the previous owner. I bought the car with 64,000 on it from a dealer so who knows about it's history, but I'm guessing they had put Mobil 1 in it because despite the torn up main caps and one bad rod bearing, the engine was just spotless!
Glock, everytime I those pictures of you heads, I cringe. I gotta believe it's been caused by more than the brand of oil used. I wonder if that kind of tenacious black varnish is caused by extended dino oil change intervals and blowby. I can only imagine what your exhaust valvestems look like. :U Anyway, you will eliminate it when you do the motor.
i just had my intake and valve covers off and ive been using mobil one. it looked just like the one in the picture, it had a couple of tiny pools of mobil 1 sitting on top of the head, but it was still liquid.
