Long tube headers touching motor mount.

I was wondering if anyone has experienced this before.
I installed my Hooker 2149 headers a month or so ago and really haven't driven the car much since.
The car seems to vibrate more than it used to so I had a closer look at my header install.
My #4 header tube is right up against the bolt of the engine mount.
Also, on the same side the header touches the frame cross piece.
I figure I can grind down the cross piece to clearance for the header because it is right at the end, past the bolts that hold it on but how can I get the #4 collector off the engine mount bolt?
I suppose I could grind down the bolt as well, it's not the head end of the bolt.
Anyone else run into this?

I remember reading that some had to flip the motor mount bolt around.

Thanks Agent
I thought of that too but I really didn't want to take the header back off.
Hey Darkred, did you shorten the bolt with the header on or did you back the header out of the way?

I may be able to get in there with a cut off wheel but it would take a pretty steady hand to not touch the header.

Thanks Hammer Down, I've never taken motor mounts apart on a car before. Will the motor move with the bolt out?
Is this a tricky job? How tough is it to take the bolt out?
Any special tools required?
Do I need to hold the engine in place with a jack or anything?

Thanks.

You will need to support the motor from a chain or block it from below. If the tube is in the way of switching the bolt, you may find that removing the whole mount (then change bolt) is easier than moving the header out of the way.

This just keeps getting easier.

Blocking it is likely the best option for me.
I could get the bolt out of the motor mount with the header in place but wouldn't be able to put it back in from the header side.

I'll have a look at the option of removing the entire mount.
I looked briefly yesterday and I thought there was a lot to it. I'll look again.
How do I support the motor? do I just block the oil pan?

Thanks.

I plan on doing this myself down the road. If you can.. can you take a pix of the bolt you are referring to so that I can use this for future reference ? Thanks.

Blocking the pan is not that tough and removing the bolts on the mount can be a PIA but do able. It is a little tough to get the wrench socket in there but you can just takes time. Be sure to take the adult beverage AFTER YOU ARE DONE! Good luck and happy motoring.

It can't be any more tough than the header bolt by tube #8 by the firewall.

Hey Jeff

Just jack up under oil pan and put a 2x4 on the jack. The EM directions dictate that you must take out the drivers side motor mount bolt and reverse it.

Thanks Fred.
I bought these Hookers used so I didn't get any instructions with them.
Also it's the passenger side on my car. Either way, same fix. I'm on it.

Thats Funny, I work till Friday. I may be able to fight with it a bit after work tomorrow. Don't see myself heading down to Barrie though.
What shifts do you work on the weekend?

So, which side of the car does this happen on? I have headers I'm going to be installing soon. Also, does flipping the bolt put the head or the nut towards the firewall?

With my car it happens on the passenger side.
The bolt sits now with the head away from the firewall so flipping it will bring the head to the firewall side pointing towards the rad.

I looked at it last night and even though many may cringe at this I just dented in the header tubes a bit so they don't touch any more.
Then I drove it to work today. I may need to make a little bit more room but it will have to wait as my battery died, won't hold a charge and my new radiator decided to drain itself in the driveway at work.
Tried to book a flatbed towtruck for 5:00 but the only one in the area is booked.
Looks like winter storage is happeneing a little earlier this year.
