Default Tips For Removing Power Steering Bracket For LT-1

I needs tips and pointers for removing the power steering bracket for an LT-1 engine. I have the Helms service manual for my car.

Is removing the power steering pulley required?

If so is there another way to remove/install the power steering pulley beside using the special J-series tools specified in the Helms manual.

Is removing the serpantine belt tensioner required?

Is removing the idler pulley required?

Thanks for any help you can give me guys.

This probably won't help....I have an L98
But, after 2.5 hours, you probably want an answer.

I had to remove the power steering pump pulley to get to the bracket holding the pump to the block. To remove the pulley I disconnected the serpentine belt, and used a pulley puller ($30.00 from Autozone) to remove the pulley. There were 8 bolts holding the bracket on (4 to the block, 4 to the front of the pump).

I hope the LT1 is set up similar to this....probably not.

Good luck,
Dave

Thanks for the reply. Is this pulley puller from Autozone a standard size part and can I use it to install the pulley back on the power steering pump?

you do not need to remove the p/s pulley if you just pull the pump itself off.. idler pulley assembly can stay on until after it's out of the car if you want.. set a/c compressor up on driver wheel well lip without disconnecting the a/c lines to it.
the p/s pump has to come off because there is a bolt behind it attaching the big bracket to the engine.. but you can remove the pump without removing the pulley by sticking a socket/extension thru the slots on the pulley.

have fun,
mikey

can't remember.. something in the 9/16" range..
you know chevy engines.. it's either 1/2", 9/16" or 5/8" or it's not an original bolt *ha ha*

The two bolts holding my PS pump on were 10mm (F-body LT1). You'll need a short extention.
