Does anyone have any experience with Golen Engine Service, either positive or negative? I am looking at options for rebuilding/relacing my blown up LT1 in my '94.
I have heard good things never had any product from them allthough I did consider them for a 383 shortblock when I did my stroker project the cost would have been similar cost since I spent about 3.2k onparts and 1.1k on machine work and instalation (machine work was high due to balancing problem with the egeal crank). but the majority of the money i spent in parts would not have been included in a short block
Gary,
I am running a 383 short block that Chad Golen built for me. I installed it about a year and half ago. It has a little over 11,000 miles on it now. He built exactly what I wanted and shipped it to my door in Florida. I can't say enough good things about his workmanship. It is awesome! A real work of art! Even the shipping crate was quality.
I recommend him to everyone who asks me about motors.
Give him a call and he will talk to you anytime. He always answers the phone and is willing to chat.
I am very happy with his work.
Use him and you won't be disappointed!
I ordered a 396 from Chad, and he was real helpful, he worked with me on a few custom things I wanted done, installed my ATI superdampner for me for free.
The turn around was a little longer than I had hoped, but he was unfront on how long it was going to be, and tried to get it out faster to me. I hope to get the car back in a day or two, baring no more problems with the install (unrelated to his work).
Have you checked out the article about his 396 in his car in GM High-Tech Performanc (August 2006). That has an article about the building of a 396, and an engine and car dyno (his car dynoed low because of the auto and large torque converter, but the engine dyno was right on the money).
I read that article in chevy hi performance. If I were to buy a block it would be from him.
The article said good things from what I remember. You should check out the magaizine its still on the shelves. chevy hi performance like cold said.
I just got a 440HP 383 from him and only have 300 miles on it so far. Motor pulls hard and works great with the custom chip that pcms4less (that Chad recommended) burned for me.
Thanks everyone for your feedback thus far. Golen is one of my top choices so far. I have read several articles about their company, and everything seems positive. I'll keep evryone posted as the project progresses as to where I have the work done, and ultimately how it turns out.
Couldn't pass up the chance to weigh in on Chad's workmanship and quality.....I have one of his 383 short blocks in my '94 and couldn't be happier with his product. Had several questions while building / installing my engine and Chad always had time to talk on the phone to answer questions and assist with the install. I've got about 100 miles on the new engine and it's running very strong....can't wait to get to a dyno and see how much HP she's producing. I wouldn't hesitate to buy another performance product from Golen Engine Service....they're
I've been to his facility (only 2 towns away from me) and it is top notch. Definately a good set of guys whos names you don't hear that often here for some reason.
