I've had both, and the oil pressure at idle for LT-1's and L-98's are WAY DIFFERENT. If I remember correctly, oil pressure was considered "acceptable" BELOW 10 psi. (I want to say clear down to 6 or 8 psi). I sold my Helms manual shortly after I sold my 95 Z28 (LT-1), so I cant give a definate number. My pressure at idle after warm up (170*-185*) was roughly 12 psi, and yes, I also thought it was way too low until I started looking in the book.

Just ask someone with a 92-96 to check their Helms manual and you'll see there's not a problem.
The L-98 is a completely different animal.

My 86 runs 29-30 at 211 degrees oil temp at idle. seems to be fine.

Good question! Wow, there is quite a range!

My '89 L98 is as low as 21 at 200 idle. When I went through really hot weather, I was watching the temp only, so this makes me wonder how low it got then!

Well, might as well throw mine in too. Considering all the problems I have with mine right now (see sig) here goes.

At idle cold 60psi
At temp, around 18psi, and about 40psi if idle is raised a bit (but not much at the moment).

I don't think so (could be wrong though). I've been on a few looooong offramps at high speed and had this happen. If I'm close to needing an oil change, and have burned off maybe a quart, sometimes the oil gets slung to the side of the pan and the pump can't get it. My dash starts freaking out, going mega-bright, and firing the red warning light at me. This is at any level below 14psi I think. I just have to let off the gas, let the oil settle back in the pan.... and all is good.

Like I said before, you can't compare the oil pressure at idle on an L-98 to that of an LT-1. I'm sure someone out there has a Helm's manual for an LT-1 to answer the question of what's acceptable pressure on an LT-1.

Mine goes to about 18-22 psi when the oil is over 200.Your car is fine. All three
of my vetts did this, and my 89 now has 125K and has always done this since
I bought it with low mileage.Nothing to worry about.

I have 98K on mine. 205-210 degrees at idle (700-800 RPM) it's 25 PSI using Mobil1 5W-30. Someone mentioned PSI @ 3K RPM as being a standard. Mine is 55 PSI @ 3000 RPM.

Yeah, my pressure at 3k rpm is much higher than like 30psi. The second I hit the gas, my pressure goes above 40. I'm normallly not watching my guages when i have rpm's over 3k, but I would assume it is around the 50-60 psi range..

Anybody that has those high readings just have junk gauges, unless they have swapped out their oil pump. 10psi at idle is completely normal and as one guy said "anything more is wasted power"
