Is my engine dead?
While on a beautiful ride by the lake I ran over a peice of metal on the road and I heard a big series of clunks. After a few moments I saw smoke coming from the rear of my 87 Corvette. I knew right away I had punctured a hole in the oil pan. I could not stop right away due it being a long and winding road.... I finally stopped and I had no oil left in my engine. But right before I stopped I noticed my oil pressure gauge read 1. I was able to stop the car at that point, but not before I heard the car tick for about 5 seconds. My question is did I burn my engine up? I may have traveled approximately 2 miles while the engine was pouring out oil. While the car was being lifted on to the tflat bed ow truck more oil still came out. Help!

If more oil came out when the car was loaded you probably did not ruin the engine. The ticking noise you heard was almost certainly collapsed lifters. A rod knock is a very noticable noise. Replace the pan, fill with good oil, and start the engine. I am willing to bet that the engine will be ok.
