I've been having a rough idle and have thrown a code 16(low resolution signal problem) a few times. So I started to remove the water pump and inspect the optispark. I know I am supposed to replace it if I am that far in. Well I thought I got all of the coolant out of the pump but one hoses puked antifreeze all over the optispark. Now I know I am going to replace it.
Do I need to remove the power steering pump pulley or can I loosen the PS pump enough to swing it out of the way so I can get the waterpump bolt behind the pulley?
Try to drain the block otherwise a lot more coolant will run all over the place when you pull the pump. Coolant in the block will continue to dribble out at the level of the block water ports as you continue removing parts, damper, etc., to get the Opti off. The lower pump bolt on the left side goes to water so be sure to apply a sealant to the threads on that bolt on reassembly. The damper may be your next challenge as it is mounted on the hub with three bolts and a zero fit and after having time to rust they can be a little difficult. Just remember to try to work it off evenly at opposite points otherwise it will try to **** to one side and stop moving.
If you follow the FSM, you don't have to guess at what parts need to come off...
If our mechanics followed the FSM it would take 3 hours to repair a 30 minute job.
Thanks for the replies guys. I grabbed an Optispark from work along with o-rings and gaskets. I am also going to install a new temp sender while I am in there.
