All I have a bit of a problem with a 1984 corvette. We just picked the car up for my little sister and when we went to go get it smoged the check engine light doesn't come on when you turn the key on. Not sure what is going on. Not sure what to check first or if there is any known issues on the 84's.
It was probably purposely disconnected. Most states will not pass your car with a SES light on - even if the car passes. I'd get the car smogged first, then address the light issue.

I'd agree with this at least in part but think a smarter choice would be to get the light working so you can extract codes, they may help diagnose the root failure. If you have a scan tool then you could bypass fixing the light since it would not be needed to read failure codes but it will need to work before it will pass inspection any way as mentioned above.
Thanks for everybody's help I will look into the light and make sure its working. I also have a code reader so I will plug that in and make sure I do not see any codes.

In Oregon, we have DEQ. If you have a SES light on, they fail you immediateley - even if your car is 'clean' enough for tags. That is why I suggested they smog the car first, then check the SES lightbulb.
Well the bulb is good but it doesn't light up. It passes out the pipe so I just need to get the light to come on. Is their a common problem with the wireing hariness or plugs I can check? Were is the harness located.
The wire to the SES light comes directly from the ECU. I will have to check my wiring diagrams but If memory serves me correct (and sometimes it doesn't) **believe** it is either tan or tan/brown.
If no one else chimes in I can check this evening.

Jump A & B on the ALDL and turn on the ignition. If the light doesnt flash 12 then you have an open circuit or a bad ECM. Assuming the bulb is OK.
