i was told today by a local machine shop that they require alot more work to balance then a eagle crank. is anybody running these cranks and did you have a tough time balancing it. any input would be apperciated.
On a 1 pc seal crank he usually puts 1 slug of mallory in the front. This allows me to run a neutral damper. I run an external balance stock type flexplate. He charges $175 to balance the rotating assembly and $50 for the slug. $225 total.

Mine never stated one way or the other about any difficulties balancing my Eagle 3.80" crank. But he was able to shave 3 lbs. off of it due to my lightweight H beams and pistons.
I just had my 96 LT4 rebuilt, Eagle Crank and 5140 SIR forged I beam rods they claim it is balanced assembly kit when you get it. SRP Forged pistons .020 over. I had all the rotating parts balanced just to make sure. I will ask when I take it back for a oil change and inspection at 500 miles.

1 Lunati The Best so he says.
2 Callies 2 and 3 are a even
3 Scat
4 Eagle Great for the street, no slicks and all balanced super tuff.
in the 4340 forged style, from the shop that built my LT4.
I went with the Eagle LT4 assembly kit with SRP forged pistons. All rotating parts balanced together.

This is exactly what mine did and at the same price.

Guess it depends on what day it is. Scat + eagle don't make anything, they buy cranks, rods, and other things and machine them and stamp their logo. They are all 'made' at a foundry in china. I think the machining is done in the US still.
So How "far out" it is I guess depends on who was operating the machine the day they were machining the core into a usable crank. heh.

I ran an Eagle forged crank (cost was about $600) for 3 seasons in my asphalt circle track latemodel. 500 HP engine turning 7600 rpm twice a lap, lap after lap. Never had a failure.

My kit is a cast crank, forged 5140 SIR I beam rods and SRP forged pistons. Hope my LT4 is stronger than the stock cast crank and rods. Melling high volume oil pump and Extreem Duty timing gear set (Cloyce makes for GM's LT4)
