Hi everyone. Went to the track yesterday to see if the upgrades to my car did anything. I had a great time. My best times used to be a 13.3, but I put a rebuilt trans in, underdrive pulleys, and relocated the battery to a storage compartment in the back. I also ran 19 psi in the rear tires and 8 deg base timing. My car calls for 6.

The first run I took off from idle. After a big burnout I got perfect traction. I could not believe it b/c this car always spins tire. Here is the timeslip info:

r/t- .214
60'- 1.867
330- 5.501
1/8- 8.534
MPH- 81.04
1000- 11.164
1/4- 13.394
MPH- 101.19

After the first run I realized I forgot to put 45 psi in the front tires. Upon inspection on only had 15 psi in it. So, I put air in the tires, and tried for a harder launch. I staged the car and reved it up w/ my foot on the brake to about 1500 rpm or so. I didn't look I really try to focus on the tree. What I should do is pre-stage get the car at the right rpm, then use the brake to stage the car. Oh well, this was my only time out this year so I was rusty. The car launched absolutly perfectly. No wheel spin that I could tell. It felt like going down a big hill on a roller coaster (stomach left back on line). Only problem with this run was that I accidently left the car in 2nd gear!!!! I usually just go in drive, but somehow I didn't get the right gear. Well 60' and 1/8 my personal bests, I only tied with my best e.t. and MPH were down. 99.48 MPH in second gear is not too bad. I wonder how many rpms I was spinning. It sounded awesome even though it was reved up WAY too high. I didn't break up or anything, just never shifted. Here is that slip:

r/t- .089
60'- 1.828
330- 5.441
1/8- 8.461
MPH- 81.37
1000- 11.091
1/4- 13.347
MPH- 99.48

That et is an exact tie (down to the thousandth!) for my personal best, even though the car was left in 2nd gear. This would have been a 13.2 at least if I would have had the car in drive. There is definatly more in the car, but no more then 1 or 2 tenths at best without more work. I think that by getting further up on the converter on the launch could get this car into the 1.7xx 60' times.

Also important, I showed up my buddies twin turbo rx7 on both runs. He is just learning to drive it on the track, so he could do better. His best run was a 13.9 @ 99.73. He just got a single turbo set up, so this may be the last time I get to beat him at the track w/ my current set up.

Cheers,

Daver

It was great. Only wish I could have got another run w/ the car in drive. It was so crowded that I only got 2 runs. The key is to go bracket racing to get the runs in I think. This was just a test and tune/ grudge night. They were also doing lots of licensing runs.

One cool thing is there are so many turbo cars out there this year. There are more being built now for next year too. Hopefully mine will be a turbo 383, 406 or 427 someday.....

Excellent times! Congrats!

What track did you go to?

What other "small bolt-ons" do you have?

Here goes my small bolt ons list:

-air pump delete
-mild plenum port
-open airbox
-descreened MAF
-March underdrive pulleys
-synthetic engine oil, trans fluid and rear gear oil
-no cat
-2 1/2 Borla Catback
-TPIS Longtubes w/ Jethot, heated o2 sensor, and esc update (to eliminate false knock detection from headers)
-MAT relocate
-smooth intake tube instead of accordian tube
-Cut airlid
-K&N Filter
-air foil (YEEAA)
-tb bypass
-8 deg base timing (stock is 6)
-low temp fan switch
-low temp thermostat
-battery relocated to the back
-adjustable fuel pressure regulator

Wow, that is a bunch of small stuff. You would think that would be good for more than .8 seconds off an e.t.! (14.1 stock to 13.3 now).

I am probably forgeting a few things as well. I have had the car for 5 years now, and have slowly made the changes.

Dave

Oh yea, I went to Maple Grove Raceway, Reading PA. I want to go to Cecil County sometime yet this year.

That sounds great. Maple Grove is right down the road from both of us. Too bad they are closed this year, but Cecil County isn't far. Or E-town or ATCO. Looks like 85vet is from around here too.

It's actually a Mustang enthusiast forum's track rental (www.superstallions.com) but ALL CARS ARE WELCOME.

It's a pre-paid event. There were some tickets left over, but they are no longer being offered by the site. You'd have to PM or email someone who's selling their spot. It's $55 via PayPal, but the track is prepped nicely and Cecil's Fall air and traction is well known for producing broken axles and/or new best ET's...One year, a buddy of mine got 21 passes in, LMAO...

I'm a long time member on that site, as well as a moderator. Go there and check the "NATS FORUM"...there was a ticket or two for sale there earlier. Gates open at 8, Racing from 9-4....there was, I believe 160 racer spots sold, which isn't diddly and you're sure to get plenty of runs in. There's always a lot of nice cars there. In fact my old 94 GT was photographed there and had a 5 page feature in a popular Mustang magazine 2 years ago. There's also NON Fords there, of course...

Let me know if I can be of any help...

Bob

Cecil is a fast track in the fall. Just try to get the left lane. I've had lots of trouble with the right lane with traction at the one-two shift. Almost smacked the wall last time.
