Default Plug Wire Replacement Ahhhhhhhh!!!!!!

So changing the plug wires on the passenger side was a breeze. But the driver side is a nightmare.

I am doing the opti at the same time so I have it, the water pump, the crank pulley and the idler removed and there is still no room to pass the wires behind the power steering pump. What do I need to loosen to get them loomed through there?

Any ideas?

It's posts like yours that make me thankful for the L98 in my car (although changing the plugs on the passenger side on the L98 is a bitch).

I remove the drivers side plastic fenderwell, right above the A Arm. Then you have a straight shot to two plugs and all the wires. Hope this helps. STeve

Loosen up the P/S pump and slide it forward about an inch and you will be fine.

You don't say what wires you bought. I replaced mine with 7mm, thats what came off. I've seen post where 8mm wires were installed, and had a hard time getting them through. I just slid the 7mm back through, one at a time, didnt have to loosen anything. The hardest part of mine was #7 wire was rusted into the cap. Once I broke it free, the job went fine.

Yep. If you can move the PS pump forward even a half-inch, you'll be able to sneak the wires in/out behind it. Removing the inner fenderwell panel also helps, as does unbolting the ASR bracketry from the vehicle's frame (you don't need to remove the unit, just free it up so that you can move it around to get it out of the way).

Be well,

Yah, but when you need to pull your intake, you'll wish it was an LT1/LT4, cuz they're dry...

Default Remove the serp belt tensioner

I didn't have to mess with the P/S pump at all. I removed the serpentine belt, then removed the tensioner from the front of the engine. With the tensioner gone you have an open shot to reach the wires down at the opti. You do need to remove the inner fender to get access down by the plugs. Of course I used factory 7mm wires and that makes a difference, and with 7mm wires you can use the factory looms to keep the wires off the headers.

Amen, splash the dist all you want. It still runs. There seems to be too many problems with the optispark. What was the advantage over a distrubuter? Just some engineer trying to justify his existance..

All2kool, nice car and color on the avitar

Haven't done anything to it. That's just the way I got it. Did the brakes but didn't rotate tires. I've always thought the blades would catch more air turning the opposite direction??
