Default Electric antenna woes

The antenna goes up once, then down once and doesn't work after that. Relay is new and good. Antenna assembly is almost new. Electric connections are good.

I'm stumped.... help please?

also, antenna motor stays very hot, like it is still trying to crank or something (makes no noise). It is in down position.

the mast is on a nylon cable so-to-speak and has groves on it resembling teeth. if the cable is broken, a piece could be binding up the gear drive causing your problem. when i got my car, it had only a stub of a mast. i dismantled the motor and saw what i described and had to buy a new mast section. then, about a year later, the mast would not go up, or down.

i dismantled the motor again and saw an electrical cam of sorts that had a wear mark on it. the contact that was suppose to rub on it was not making a good contact with it, thus causing my problem. i slightly bent the contact so that it goes all the way up and down when it is supposed to.....there you have it!...the end...

Thanks for the info. I pried the clips off that hold the two sides together and could open the case long enough to smell very hot motor. I'm pretty sure the motor continues to try to crank after it has pulled the antenna all the way down.

Now, there are three rivet like things still holding the case together. any tips on how to deal with those?

Thanks much.

You really need to get the Helm's FSM. It'll make this whole thing a lot easier in the future.

Drill out the rivets and replace with machine screws and nuts.
