I am trying to "Pimp my Ride" a bit and one of the things I would like to upgrade is the wheels and tires on my stock 85, along with bumper upgrades, and new interior/exterior electronics. I have been salivating over a set of AFS Black Chrome wheels w/ sumitomo HTR Z tires I have seen on ebay. I would love the 9.5 fronts and 11 rears like the big boys have. Does anyone have any experience and better yet....pictures of their car with the larger equipment on the rear without adding GS type fender flares. Do 11"rims have a deeper inner rim lip to hub mounting surface than my stock rims to draw the tire in under the car more? I dont want Rooster tails on wet roads like I did with my old VW bug. I hope I have learned a little something as I have aged. Thanks in advance for any input anyone can share. I could use the tires now so this item is getting pushed to the top of my list...
I just purchased the 17X11 ZR-1 Black Chrome.....should arrive day before Thanksgetting Day.....Have you mounted yours yet? And did you get the wheels only?...Or the set with the Sumitomo tires ?
Salesman assured me the rear rims have a deeper backset so the xtra rubber would be tucked under the car and there would be no tire outside the stock body.....How can a tire be narrower than its dimensions? Could the edge of the tire be rounded over more to clear inner fender rub when hitting a bump? This is what both my sons are always after with their VW Corrados. Seriously oversizing the rim, and putting the narrowest tire you can inflate onto it........
