Overheating problem 92 LT-1 stock
Hi Guys -
I've got a 92 stock LT-1 and my temp is rising at idle on a cool day (no A/C) to 220! When running 30+ mph it drops to 190 area. Is there a cooling fan for idle speed? or a fuse for a cooling fan that can be checked? or some way I can check problem? The coolant level is good along with the level in the overflow bottle. The car only has 19000 miles and everything seems to be in great shape...
Thanks in advance,
Sounds completely normal to me. I believe that, if stock, the thermostat opens at 190, and the fan kicks on at 228 below 30 mph.
if the thermostat opens at 190 the temp will remain within 5 degrees of 190 either way, sounds to me the thermostat could be sticking closed??? 228 is WAY to hot.

228 is NOT way to hot for an LT1. They were designed to run this temp at idle. Remember; at idle without the fans running you have no airflow through the radiator. The fans will (should) come on at around 228. You can force them on by turning on the a/c.
The temperatures you are describing are completely normal for a 92, as they ran just like this straight from the factory as designed.
