I just completely ripped my dash out to replace the heater core. I had some wiring that need repairing so im glad i did it. My question is...what is the relay thats behind the dash instrument panel? This the section above the radio and behind panel. i can see a fuse for the rear window also. Should I replace these before i go through the hassle of buttoning up the dash again. Also i want to test out the heater core and new radiator i put in for leaks so i was wondering i can start the car without any of the instrument cluster and various plugs i dissconnected on?
The relay question might be more easily answered if people knew what you are working on. The best I can come up with is the horn relay. It ought to be fairly easy to check out or test. *I* can't think of any reason not to start the engine... if it will.
Yep, if we knew what year you're working on it would be easier to give an answer. I can tell you this, the heater core SHOULD have been checked before you put it in. Now is not the time to wonder if it's okay.

No need to replace said fuse if it's not blown and is the correct rating.

No instrument cluster needed for the car to start up and run.
