Gonna put a set of KYB's on my 84' and I notice 3 different part#'s for the years:84' - 87', 88', 89' - 96'. Question is will the 89'-96' ones fit my 84'? I believe it's just a valve sizing issue maybe firmer on the earlier models? I have 95' springs on front & rear and I want the softest ride that I can get.

They will fit.
I believe the only physical change was the front lower mounting arrangement, but the different shocks are interchangeable. You'll see what I mean.

Since the C4 used the same suspension throughout the run (only changing spring rates, shock valving, and sway bars), and considering the spring changes CAJUN has made to his car, it would seem to me that using the shocks made for the '95 would be the wisest choice.
But, hey, it wouldn't be the first time I was completely wrong!!!
I put the KYBs on my 85 Z51 and wish I went with the Bilsteins. The Kybs feel a tad on the soft side. But they really smoothed the ride out, no more harsh bumps either.I just wish they were just a little bit more firm.
