Default Need tech 1 help

I need something similar to a tech1 to troubleshhoot my 93. Is there some software and a cable that I can buy and plug in to my laptop that would do the same thing or is the only option a tech 1. I've got an EZ Read 2000 code reader, but I want to be able to check sensor operation, etc on the car. Not running a shop, so I'm not looking to spend a lot, but I am willing to spend enough to get something decent. I have a few gm vehicles along with the vette. One is a 98 Pontiac, so I guess the Tech 1 would not work on that or would it? If I'm looking at a used Tech1 on Ebay or elsewhere, anything I should be aware of such as condition or accessories, etc? Dazed and confused and looking for a place to start. Thanks in advance for your help.

Just download a copy of Datamaster for your car:

www.ttspowersystems.com

Then get a communications cable from AKM Cables:

www.akmcables.com

Or you can buy a tech1 or a tech1a but thats going to easily cost 3 to 4x the cost of the cable and software.

I have a Tech1A with the latest GM software, which goes through 96 only. I wouldn't be without, but you'll have to wait a very long time to find one on ebay for reasonable $$. Mine came with the mass storage cart and latest software for $300, but that deal dosen't come around often. I see older Tech1's with only a couple of ROM carts go for $800. Without the Mass Storage Cart and full software, I wouldn't bother. You might as well run a PC and logging software.

I don't know what you have to spend on the OBDI system, but the best deal I have found is Turbo Link. This is a windows based software and is very user friendly. It costs $280 for the cable and the software. Here is the web site: http://www.turbo-link.com/
Please note there is a demo to download to see what you are getting.
