I just got a quote for my 91 to put 3.07 gears in my D-36. It was for $750. This includes the bearing replacement. Remember....I have almost 110,000 on the clock. What I am wondering is if this price is good, bad, average, etc.
I want to get rid of my 2.59's!!!!!!!!! :smash: :smash: :smash: :smash:
My 85 had the 3.07's......the 2.59's make me want to :U .
In my opinion, I think that's about right... Pending on the actual cost of the gears, and what brand? I think the Dana gears are more expensive than the other brands....
I paid around $285 for the gears (made by DANA) and about $550 for the install...
Be real sure you want 3.09s. I went from 2.57 to 3.09 and it's is a great improvement. But I wish I had at least 3.23, or if it would hold up, 3.54. Lots of posters with 3.09s wish they were lower, all the 3.54 guys are either happy or want to go lower, like a Dana 44 @ 4.10. I bet you could find a complete 3.09 set up for $500 or less from one of the posters going to a 44. I paid either 450 or 500 complete for mine, found them for sale on the board. I still have the complete 2.57, think I'll have 3.54 put in that one. JMHO. Good luck.

The car we are talking about is a 91 TPI, he will have the perfect gears with 3:07's. Anything higher for an L98 is not going to give you the 1/4 mile performance.
The $750 price seems about right for a gear swap including the gears.
I dunno. I have only raced once, last week 13.91, 2.03 60', 98.94mph. 1988 L98 auto. Seemed to me the car was shifting into 3rd too late to take advantage of all power available. Next time I go (I hope this week) I will see what the rpms are at the finish but it felt like I had a lot of power left over when I crossed the line. I am going with 3.23 or 3.54 if I can find them reasonable, but not before learning all I can.

I fell better about this place now......just weary about getting my car worked on. YOu know...take it in fine and then get it back and all is wrong due to bad install, etc.
The 3.07's are for me...not mild but not wild! JUST RIGHT! :yesnod:
Just pick a used 3.07 differential from a junkyard, they are cheaper than a gear swap. Then you don't have to worry about some idiot mechanic screwing up your differential.
I was thinking that 373 would be too much. Sure glad I listened to some friends. At 70 I run around 2600 RPM. Third gear will run 115 or so. Just right for me. Think about a higher gear you won't be sorry. :flag
I thought that what I have picked up in here is that higher than a 3.07 on an L98 is not ideal due to its torque curve. 3.54's and 3.73's work great with Lt1's but not L98 unless other work is done to the engine.
$750 is a very good price if your tech knows what he or she is doing.
Erik that seems like a very good deal. What ratio are you going to wind up with? Is the forum member you refer to in the vette biz and here in NC? Would like to know if he can help me out with my gears..
Thanks
Harold
