well I had my '90 L98 in the shop for injectors(22.5), plugs, wires, distributor cap, coil, rotor, and a fuel filter. Well I guess they scanned it and I got a code 45..then they said the code wouldnt store..so they said it my be a computer problem. I dont think it is because I know this is common with the EGR "Thing" just not sure how to fix it or if this could be why my gas milage is way down. Its when the SES light comes on after driving at about 70mph for 10 mins..then it shuts off... but it only happens maybe twice a month, not often.. ahh so confused!
I'm getting a lot of Back pressure when I lay off the gas in 3rd or if I rev it... it kinda pops.
Just checked for codes myself and I got 12..so its not there. Not sure how they found code 45... any help would be greatly appreciated.
also: they checked the o2 sensors apperantly and they are fine.
Factory Service Manual. These are the books that the dealerships use to work on vehicles. You can find them on ebay, mid america, ecklers, corvette central, helms.com. A new manual will cost $100+ depending on year. Autozone or the like will not have these.
Do a search for FSM and see what you find. There was a long thread on here a few weeks ago.
Can you eliminate pre cats in CA? I know if I have to change the cat out it has to be the same one.. no performance gain
84-86E? did not have pre cats. Many smog techs won't know the year cut off when this changed occured in the C4, or even if it every did. I bought a used stock front y pipe with no pre cats that I bolt on every two years to pass visual. They never say anything about no pre cats.

my 86E doesn't have precats and it looks stock...no welding on it.
this has nothing to do with code 45, but a friend had a problem with a slight hickup..he chased it for a year, found out it was his coolant temp sensor...but he wasn't throwing a code, seems like the computer was correcting for it before a code could be set...don't know if he ever scanned for it, but it seems if he did or could he would have seen it on a scan. Sounds like you two guys may have a similar problem...computer correcting the condition..or adjusting for it before a code can be set.
As far as code 45 goes...look at the diagnostic aids, it states among others..
1. Fuel Pressure System will go rich if pressure is too high. The ECM can compensate for some increase.
However, if it gets too high, a Code 45 may be set. note; it doesn't say WILL BE SET...but I'm
pretty sure you'd see it on a scan.
