Default 1996 Passive Key Entry (PKE)

I just purchased a 1996 corvette.
I got two remotes for the PKE which I read about how to program in the manual. So I programmed both and they will unlock the passenger door/hatch successfully.

Then I read about the passive key entry option. It was disabled, so I do the procedure to turn the system ON (key not in ignition, press door key for > 2 seconds). But this doesn't seem to work.

Also, I read about the option to unlock both doors. So I do that procedure (key in ignition, press door key for > 2 seconds). But this doesn't seem to work either.

Any sugguestions?
Am I not understand the procedure correctly?
Thanks

You might want to add some details. "doesn't seem to work" isn't a lot to go on.

Sorry, good point. :-)

The option for unlock both doors doesnt' work as in when I press the door button on the FOB, only the passenger door unlocks. When I try to set the option for both doors, it still just unlocks the passenger.

For the passive key entry system not working. After I proform the procedure to turn it ON. The criteria to see if the system is ON is
(1) The "Passive Key Entry Active" light does not come on when you turn on the ignition (like it says in manual)
(2) The system does not respond to me when I leave or enter the vehicle's range (passively).

The FOB does unlock the doors if I press the button. So I would think the FOB is working, but I can turn ON the system.

I think you're misunderstanding what it does. "Open both doors" means the passive system unlocks both doors. There is no way to unlock both doors with the active button. (Which sucks royally...)

When you hold down the button to enable PKE, do the door locks cycle?

typo....."but I can NOT turn ON the system"
and the PKE active light does NOT come on (it should) after I enable the system.

(1) Okay. I misunderstook. Thanks.
(2) What does it mean "door locks cycle"?
Should it lock them? Or should it unlock multiple times?

When I hold down the button, the doors unlock, yes.

When you hold down the button to arm or disarm the PKE, the locks should unlock then relock (or vice versa.)

Even though your transmitter seems to be working, the first thing I'd do is change the transmitter battery.

Default Pke

When 'activating' or de-activating' or changing from 1 to 2 door operation (or vice versa)
When you hold the door button on the fob, the locks will 'twitch' after about 2 seconds.
Continue holding the button for another 3 or 4 seconds and the locks will cycle fully.
The change will have been made.
When the system is 'active' the light will illuminate in the DIC when the key is turned on.
Hope this helps.

Okay.... I only held the button > 2 seconds after the first unlock. I didn't understand what "doors lock cycle" meant.
Thank you all!
