I assume you mean the tach. There is an inline filter that might be giving you such problems. Mines an 85 and the filter was on the firewall near the distributor.....if memory serves me. You can replace or remove it. I removed mine with no side affects. Good luck
keep the tach filter! its there to protect solid state components from voltage spikes that can fry ss components. its nothing more than a capacitor. you can make your own to replace it. do a search and you will find how to procedure. it wont hurt to disconect it to troubleshoot, but if you leave it off, eventually, it will cost you.
Although he does not mention it here and he does not
mention it in his profile, according to a previous post

Good info, since the L98 cars and the LTx ones have significantly
different ignition systems. I could go on at length about the
filter on my '89 L98 - but this wouldn't do uk vet much good.
Perhaps someone knowledgable about the LTx can help out.
sorry yes it is a 92 . I am on nights in uk so my posts are at strange times . The tach seems to flutter too high sometimes and goes below zero at idle at times. Could it be connected to a 34 fault i also have ( MAP sensor ) that i think is a vacuum problem ?
The tach filter is located down by the coil. It is inline with one of the wires. Its a small black plactic piece.
BTW when installing a MSD 6al box it was necessary to bypass it according to instructions.
