I have a friend that bought an S10 with a 455 Buick in it. He has since swapped to a tall deck big block, 632 cid, I think. A puny sbc ought to fall in with room to spare. There are even kits to take all the thinking out of the project.

Yes it will fit for sure. Also, If you need the engine mount kit I have the hooker header motor mount plates I used in my 9 second S-10. I used them for a couple of years but eventually I installed motor plates and mid mounts and no longer needed it. Let me know if you need them and I will hook you up with a very fair price...they are sitting on a shelf in my garage.

Thanks! You can find them very cheap especially the early 80's models. These trucks are light and can be made very fast. If you need some tips I would be happy to help you. Your biggest challenge is unbolting an automatic transmission with the small block still in the car because the bolts are REALLY tough to get to. There are simple tricks I promise!
Why an L83? Bigger cubic inches can had and more torque by default.
My guess would be because he already has the engine.

Besides, underneath the crossfire, it's a small block Chevy. And will respond to all the normal mods. With a ported crossfire on even a mildly built L83, an S-10 should be quite fun.
i have one, and i want it to have the same engine as my vette
Gotcha. It is not a difficult swap, the key is the motor mounts/motor mount adapter plates and the exhaust manifolds or headers. Try to put it in with the transmission attached to the engine if at all possible or you will go crazy trying to bolt it in place afterwards because the trans tunnel is very tight with an automatic transmission.
If the S10 came with a 4.3 v6, a v8 will drop right in using the same mounts but if it did not come with a 4.3 you can get a hedman header kit or a hooker header kit, to install one. I built an S15 pickup 355 and ended up putting the engine in my 86 vette
