Default Sensor question

I just realized the Brodix heads I just installed, do not have a place for the temperature sensor, or the fan switch. What other options do I have to install these. Thanks for any help.

If the holes are not just simply plugged, I would contact Brodix for advice as where, exactly, to drill and tap those holes. I'd bet where they are in the stock heads would be OK. I doubt you have two extra holes into water passages in your intake manifold.

I know you're dealing with heads, but when I installed the MiniRam on my 86 there weren't enough drilled and tapped holes for all my coolant temp sensors either. I had three connections to be made but only two holes.

I ended up buying a short nipple and a 'T' in order to allow two sensors to use the same intake tapped hole.

On an '88 the ECM coolant temp sensor is located in the front of the intake base; the gauge coolant temp sensor is located in the RH side of the block.

There were no temp sensors in the heads.

What about the Aux fan switch? On the 86 it's in the driver's side head, right? Is it the same on the 88?

That's interesting, there are two sensors in the water jackets on the stock heads. One on the drivers side and one on the pass. side. What are these for?
BTW that's my dad the started this thread that's why I'm asking questions on his behalf.

On my 86, the one in the passenger side head is for the dash temp gauge and the one in the driver's side head is for the auxillary fan.

On my '88 (#113 Al heads) both the ECM temp sensor and the aux injector temp switch are located on the RH front of the intake base.

WRONG! The only thing "in the RH side of the block" is the knock sensor, just above the oil pan rail, in a block coolant drain hole. The only temp sensor in the block is just above the oil filter on the left side in the rear of the block, down fairly low. It is for the oil temperature. The ECT sensor IS in the front of the intake manifold. as stated. The IP temperature gauge sending unit is in the right head, between the #6 and the #8 spark plugs. The fan switch is in the same hole, in the other head, which puts it between the #1 and #3 spark plugs.

Maybe we can put a stop the THAT lore.

That is correct. That is also true of iron heads and the 128 aluminum heads, too. But last I looked, an intake manifold wasn't a block.

That's got to be the dash gauge sender if it's on the passenger side. If on the driver's side it's the aux fan temp switch.

It is. Note starter just below. I just did not specify what side, because both sensors swapped sides through out the years, and not cause confusion.

CORRECT! But only for 1986 - 1989. The 1984 and '85 cars had the IP gauge sender and the fan switch on the opposite sides as the 1986s and up. But ALL were in the HEADS!

My 87 FSM says the fan sensor is in the pass. head. So which is right? How can you test this?

That must be a carry over from earlier years, and a misprint for your 1987. With the ignition on, engine off, remove the connector from the switch and ground the wire in the connector. When the wire to the fan is grounded, the fan will come on. If it is the gauge sending unit, the gauge will max out.

OK, now that we cleared that up, I think. I still have no place to put these sensors in the heads. What other options do I have to put these??? Thanks.

Did you check to be sure there aren't holes with plugs screwed into threaded holes?

I recall AFR heads use to come without the necessary holes drilled and tapped for the sensors/senders. You may be walking the same road.
