I am about to purchase a set of Hedman Elite's for my 87. What front Y pipe should I use?

Thanks

Hooker 16720 Y-pipe. This pipe works with hooker headers. Maybe it will work on yours. Good luck.

Hedman uses Ball type flange and will not work w/hooker y-pipes. You will have to have one made, as I did.

Straight shot???

It sure looks like it...or almost a straight shot.

What did you do, just cut it the length needed and weld the collectors on?

fwiw, I made just over 500rwhp with 1-5/8" longtubes on another car. I can't see why I would/should need 1-3/4" longtubes (TPiS, Hooker) on something that makes 1/2 that, or less.
Besides, that'll open up the cylinder head budget some more...lol

How's spark plug access?

I like your picture.
Did you delete the main center cat? I just purchased the elites, and I'm deleting all the cats on my 90'. I have a set of corsa mufflers. What do u do with the egr port(passenger side rear of intake) on the intake manifold? Plug it? I sure hope the ecm won't throw a code and make it run bad. Is there any 02 sensors in the exhaust on my car? As long as the sensor is in front of the cats, the ecm wont know if the cats are there or not, right?

Yes, I made a block off plate for the intake's EGR port and yes, I removed the main cat. I cut the the main cat's rear flange off and welded it to a piece of 3" pipe, so it was the same length as cat. That way my Magnaflow cat back is still a direct bolt on.
As for the O2 sensor, there is only one and it is before pre cat on drivers side. I bought an O2 bung and welded it into the ball socket flange that comes with the Elites. I didn't want to mess up the coating on any part of the header.

Thanks for the feedback AGENT 86,
What size bung for the 02 sensor (inside thread)? do you have any pics of the bung location?. Sounds like you lengthened your wires also. Soldered?

Go to your nearest parts supplier and ask for a weld on O2 bung. I'll look later for a pic.
I used a heated O2 sensor, so yes I had to lengthen and add a wire.

Hedman makes a collector flange that already has an O2 bung welded in.

For the OP; you will have to remove the starter to get the passenger side header in place. Then re-install the starter before bolting the header in place. Once the header is installed the factory starter will not come out without pulling the header.

Also go really careful when removing the dipstick tube. That has to come out too.

I was just wondering, why wouldn't you go to a full dual exhaust system? Is it that much more complicated to build or is it a lot more expensive?
