I have the SLP breather "the claw" with three cone filters. I drive alot and have a high mileage vette and would be replacing paper filters too ofter. To me, its a time and money saving thing.
No the filter is fine. I was just asking if I should just stick with the paper filter. If its not going to really make a difference I just assume sell it. I am trying to get performance and protect my motor. As for the thread being beaten a few days ago, I think I am allowed to get my view on things. I said I had researched it and talked to other members but they are all varying opinions.
That is just it, you will get varying opinions on every subject matter. I can think of very few things that will elicit a unanimous opinion. The dead horse folks are trying to point that out. Unfortunately in the realm of internet information credibility is always the issue. Whose opinion do you go with?
In this case, credibility comes from the millions of K&N's out there that are not blowing up engines or ruining MAF sensors. (a very good point made before) They filter the air at least to the minimum required, beyond that is subject to "varying opinions" and no amount of research, pm's, or threads is going to change that. In fact there is a website out there dedicated to showing how horrible K&N's are for your motor with "scientific research" including oil analysis and such. And again, millions of motors with several millions of miles are just fine.
So feel free to ask whatever, just be aware that many topics have been discussed and everytime an issue comes up, the opinions will continue to vary. You will need to ignore the rude folks and make a decision with imperfect information. (Search for "what size injector" or "miniram superram" )
Alright guys, it is a simple question. Just a simple yes or no answer and a little explanation. No need for all the ugly comments. I know it was covered recently, but sometimes a search doesn't answer all the questions. For me, there's no problem helping other members, that might not know.
I didnt mean my comment in any ugly way. I have no problem reading threads like this. We all started in the Corvette world somtime. I apoligize if my reply came off negative.
The main gain from the K&N you see with flow rates is usually going to show up after it gets dirty.
Dirty K&N > most other dirty filters.
I usually just take mine out, knock the dirt out of it, maybe hit it with compressed air, then stick it back on. I clean and oil it maybe once a year or when its really dirty.
I just like knowing that when its dirty, its still going to flow pretty decently so I don't have to change it every month or so like with a stock filter.
Be careful of cheap K&N knockoffs though... I have seen a real K&N in my buddy's offroad truck keep 100% of the mud and dirt out afte he completely submerged his entire intake and engine in a lake. there wasn't a SPOT of anything inside behind the filter.
I had a K&N knockoff cheap filter on another car of mine that I put a CAI on. I noticed after a while, inside the CAI pipe that there was water stains running almost all the way up to the TB!!!
So be careful if you buy a cheap cotton based filter that is NOT a K&N.
