I just got done relocating my Mat sensor, removing my Frisbee, Gutting my air pump and removing all of the air crap, cut my spark plugs back, ported my plenum and runners, removed pre-cats and gutted my main cat and DAM! It's like driving a totally different car. Made my flowmasters scream! I did all of these mods myself, no kits, and they were definately worth the time. Gonna try the intake siamese thing next. Any suggestions or comments on that mod?:smash:
To gut the air pump you must split it in two by removing the four case bolts. There will be a large rotating cylinder inside. Look into the small hole about 2 inches in diameter, you will see several aluminum cam looking things that contain bearings. Attached to these are two fiber fins that actually do the pumping. I took a sharp chisel and inserted it into the hole and with a hammer I cut the fins apart until all of the pieces came out. Make sure you get all of the pieces out! Then I cleaned out the big bearing, regreased it and reassembled it. After you do this you can remove the AIR diverter valves, the check valves on each exhaust manifold and all of the pipes and hoses. I went to the local auto parts store and bought two pipe caps for the manifold fittings to cap them off. You also have to plug up the pipe on the main cat. I had mine welded shut. As far as the cats, I completely removed the pre-cats and replaced them with straight pipe, and gutted the main cat. NO CODES!
Vette 90, is your AIR system the same as mine (85). Also, you said you removed the check valves on each manifold. What are the check valves, what do they look like, and how are they removed??? Thnx
Another cheap mod is cutting a hole in the radiator cover under the airbox and putting a filter on the backside of the box to suck fresh air in...I did mine, and sealed the front of the normal aircleaner so it all looks stock also.
